The class will be a multi-session\u003cbr\u003eexperience, designed to correctly define folk magic, give attendants foundational\u003cbr\u003eskills to build their own folk practice, and highlight the importance of folk magic\u003cbr\u003eas an act of reconnection and resistance in a fascist, capitalistic, colonized\u003cbr\u003eenvironment. Journaling throughout the class will be highly encouraged.\u003cbr\u003eAttendants will pay in advance before a deadline for once-weekly sessions over\u003cbr\u003ethe course of a month or so.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eTARGET AUDIENCE:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe class targets individuals who may feel failed by the capitalistic, culturally\u003cbr\u003eappropriative, racist, misogynistic hallmarks of the New Age, Wiccan, Neopagan,\u003cbr\u003eetc., spiritual grift. The class is appropriate for all ages, backgrounds, and levels\u003cbr\u003eof spiritual understanding. The content is designed to address the spiritual\u003cbr\u003easpirations and concerns of marginalized groups, often profited off of but rarely\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eaccommodated in the spiritual community: POC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent\u003cbr\u003epeople, women, disabled individuals, impoverished communities, etc..\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eGOALS:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e-DECOLONIZATION AND SEPARATION FROM CAPITALISM.\u003cbr\u003e-Reconnection to individual ancestral wisdom and practices.\u003cbr\u003e-Reconnection to context.\u003cbr\u003e-Reconnection to and appreciation of the environment\/natural resources.\u003cbr\u003e-Addressing religious trauma and the limitations it creates at every level.\u003cbr\u003e-Understand different types of entities, deities, etc., that can be connected with.\u003cbr\u003e-Understand accessible tools for folk magic\/combat consumerism and elitism in\u003cbr\u003espirituality.\u003cbr\u003e-Focus on dedication, discipline, and consistency over consumerism\/elitism in\u003cbr\u003eorder to explain how intention really works.\u003cbr\u003e-Guide attendants to connect with the tools, environments, cosmologies,\u003cbr\u003eancestors, and guides that support their identity and context.\u003cbr\u003e-Central focus on resistance, community, and decolonization, through alchemy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eREQUIREMENTS:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1. Attendants must have a desire to confront problematic structures in their\u003cbr\u003eexisting approach to spiritual practice (cultural appropriation, misogyny,\u003cbr\u003ehomophobia, racism, ableism, elitism, capitalism, etc.)...if i hear the words\u003cbr\u003e“too woke”, you’re out (non refundable :) ).\u003cbr\u003e2. Attendants must respect the perspectives, questions, backgrounds, and\u003cbr\u003eidentities of other attendants.\u003cbr\u003e3. Attendants must pay for the class upfront before the registration deadline.\u003cbr\u003e4. Sessions missed are nonrefundable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e5. Attendants must respect the time and autonomy of the instructor and other\u003cbr\u003eattendants (no monopolizing time, talking over other attendants), group\u003cbr\u003ediscussions will be respectful and civil. This is a group session for a reason:\u003cbr\u003efolk magic should encourage connection, collaboration, and active\u003cbr\u003elistening.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eDISCLAIMERS:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1. This class assumes a belief in ancestors, entities\/deities, animism, the use\u003cbr\u003eof spiritual tools like divination and spellcraft. It is advised that attendants\u003cbr\u003ebelieve in, or at least be very open to these concepts in order to enjoy and\u003cbr\u003ebenefit from the class.\u003cbr\u003e2. The suggestion of harmful practices like cultural appropriation,\u003cbr\u003eNeonazism, forms of spiritual elitism, etc., are unacceptable. While the\u003cbr\u003etarget audience of this class lies far outside these parameters, anyone in\u003cbr\u003eattendance who expresses support for these ideas will be asked to leave for\u003cbr\u003ethe safety of other attendants.\u003cbr\u003e3. Attendants may be expected to do “homework” outside of sessions,\u003cbr\u003ehowever, these requests will typically involve very simple tasks to help\u003cbr\u003eelevate the pursuit of an individual folk practice and will not be “enforced”\u003cbr\u003eso to speak.\u003cbr\u003e4. Participation in Q\u0026amp;A style teaching\/group discussion will be expected. The\u003cbr\u003egoal of folk magic is to build connection through understanding, not to\u003cbr\u003eisolate.\u003cbr\u003e5. Outdoor activities may be included (ex.: evaluating natural resources that\u003cbr\u003ecan be used in spellwork to combat consumerism)\u003cbr\u003e6. TRIGGER WARNING: Traumas are very likely to be addressed in a class\u003cbr\u003elike this. When decolonizing our practice, we may confront ways that we\u003cbr\u003emay have caused harm or been harmed in the past (often both).
