METHOD:

Provide a foundational education in folk magic to both experienced practitioners
seeking deeper connection to their craft and beginners seeking informed
perspectives in a safe learning environment. The class will be a multi-session
experience, designed to correctly define folk magic, give attendants foundational
skills to build their own folk practice, and highlight the importance of folk magic
as an act of reconnection and resistance in a fascist, capitalistic, colonized
environment. Journaling throughout the class will be highly encouraged.
Attendants will pay in advance before a deadline for once-weekly sessions over
the course of a month or so.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

The class targets individuals who may feel failed by the capitalistic, culturally
appropriative, racist, misogynistic hallmarks of the New Age, Wiccan, Neopagan,
etc., spiritual grift. The class is appropriate for all ages, backgrounds, and levels
of spiritual understanding. The content is designed to address the spiritual
aspirations and concerns of marginalized groups, often profited off of but rarely

accommodated in the spiritual community: POC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent
people, women, disabled individuals, impoverished communities, etc..

GOALS:

-DECOLONIZATION AND SEPARATION FROM CAPITALISM.
-Reconnection to individual ancestral wisdom and practices.
-Reconnection to context.
-Reconnection to and appreciation of the environment/natural resources.
-Addressing religious trauma and the limitations it creates at every level.
-Understand different types of entities, deities, etc., that can be connected with.
-Understand accessible tools for folk magic/combat consumerism and elitism in
spirituality.
-Focus on dedication, discipline, and consistency over consumerism/elitism in
order to explain how intention really works.
-Guide attendants to connect with the tools, environments, cosmologies,
ancestors, and guides that support their identity and context.
-Central focus on resistance, community, and decolonization, through alchemy.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Attendants must have a desire to confront problematic structures in their
existing approach to spiritual practice (cultural appropriation, misogyny,
homophobia, racism, ableism, elitism, capitalism, etc.)...if i hear the words
“too woke”, you’re out (non refundable :) ).
2. Attendants must respect the perspectives, questions, backgrounds, and
identities of other attendants.
3. Attendants must pay for the class upfront before the registration deadline.
4. Sessions missed are nonrefundable.

5. Attendants must respect the time and autonomy of the instructor and other
attendants (no monopolizing time, talking over other attendants), group
discussions will be respectful and civil. This is a group session for a reason:
folk magic should encourage connection, collaboration, and active
listening.

DISCLAIMERS:

1. This class assumes a belief in ancestors, entities/deities, animism, the use
of spiritual tools like divination and spellcraft. It is advised that attendants
believe in, or at least be very open to these concepts in order to enjoy and
benefit from the class.
2. The suggestion of harmful practices like cultural appropriation,
Neonazism, forms of spiritual elitism, etc., are unacceptable. While the
target audience of this class lies far outside these parameters, anyone in
attendance who expresses support for these ideas will be asked to leave for
the safety of other attendants.
3. Attendants may be expected to do “homework” outside of sessions,
however, these requests will typically involve very simple tasks to help
elevate the pursuit of an individual folk practice and will not be “enforced”
so to speak.
4. Participation in Q&A style teaching/group discussion will be expected. The
goal of folk magic is to build connection through understanding, not to
isolate.
5. Outdoor activities may be included (ex.: evaluating natural resources that
can be used in spellwork to combat consumerism)
6. TRIGGER WARNING: Traumas are very likely to be addressed in a class
like this. When decolonizing our practice, we may confront ways that we
may have caused harm or been harmed in the past (often both). The sessions are always a safe space to process these associations, but be advised that addressing trauma and trauma responses may be something guides and ancestors challenge you to address in this class.
